Part 1 · Why Aether, why now

Executive Thesis & Strategic Verdict

Aether is the trust and distribution layer for installable open-web apps and agents. Developers keep their origins. Users get discovery, evidence, guided install, and a visible trust contract — not a claim that the web equals every native API.

The decision

Positioning

Discover and install verified web apps and agents—built for the open web, checked continuously, and transparent about what they can access and do.

Proceed — but define the company as a trust and distribution network for open-web software, not as a generic PWA builder, and not as a claim that web apps can reproduce every native capability. Aether Apps is a product of JusticeBridge Technologies, Inc. The working public domain is aether-apps.com. Aether is a working name and is not trademark-cleared.

Do not use “App Store” as Aether’s mark. Nominative comparison to native stores is allowed only with attribution and without implying Apple or Google affiliation.

Why now

  • AI-assisted development compresses build time and creates many small, frequently updated products that do not fit native packaging cycles.
  • Distribution is fragmenting across GPT directories, agent stores, MCP registries, hosting galleries, and traditional stores — with no shared trust language.
  • The open web now supports install, offline shells, Web Push (including Home Screen web apps on iOS/iPadOS 16.4+), passkeys, and richer device APIs — unevenly.
  • Trust is the bottleneck: vibe-coded products often lack provenance, privacy controls, incident response, and clear ownership.

Aether must not claim that native-store review usually takes days or weeks. Apple states that, on average, 90% of submissions are reviewed in less than 24 hours. The strategic problem is platform-specific packaging, entitlements, and policy — while live web origins can update continuously.

PWA reality, stated honestly

On Android the installable-web experience is close to native. On iOS it is usable but second-class: Add to Home Screen / Open as Web App, push only after that install, storage can be evicted, and widgets, HealthKit, unrestricted Bluetooth/NFC/USB, and true background daemons remain native-only or browser-dependent.

The product promise is: the safest and easiest way to install trusted open-web apps and agents, with honest capability compatibility. Not: every web app can do everything a native app can.

What is genuinely novel

  • The marketplace is a trust layer, not a binary package gate. Aether verifies a live origin, signed release evidence, declared capabilities, data practices, agent behavior, and current runtime status.
  • Updates remain web-speed. Material changes trigger re-evaluation, a new trust record, and rollback if policy fails.
  • The listing is an evidence object: Capability Passport, privacy label, autonomy class, scan history, developer identity, incident status.
  • The same listing guides iOS Home Screen install, Android / WebAPK, and desktop install. Optional native packaging is a later, separately reviewed channel.
  • Agents are governed as software actors: tools, scopes, models, retention, approval points, cost limits, kill switch — not marketing copy.

Non-negotiable boundaries

  • Do not begin as an open submission directory.
  • Do not require developers to host on Aether.
  • Do not ship an iOS super-app shell that loads arbitrary mini-apps.
  • Do not sell an absolute “secure” badge. State scope, date, version, and limits.
  • Do not permit silent privilege expansion.
  • A0–A2 agents may be public-MVP eligible. A3 needs enhanced review. A4 is enterprise/private pilot only.
Recommendation

Launch a curated marketplace with a published baseline standard, automated continuous verification, and human review for elevated-risk apps. Begin with productivity, developer, creator, education, and business utilities. Exclude or heavily gate financial execution, medical diagnosis, legal representation, gambling, surveillance, child-directed products, and A4 agents.
